Review 16: Peace Like A River (Leif Enger)

Heartbreakingly good prose and poetry, and a revelry in the beauty of mourning. Also, a creative masterpiece in intertwining character, plot, and verse. The voices of the characters are authentic and true, probably as much as in the great "To Kill A Mockingbird." The voice of the cultural landscape also rings with integrity.

Yet, something about this book leaves me unsatisfied. The story seems to meander down some dark paths. Not enough resolution for me. I would have liked to seen justice done in the end, or at least a hint at it.

Also, I take issue with some of the 'worldview' here, which seems to include pacifism. And, the morality is a bit too fuzzy, too ill-defined. Also, evil is presented as TOO powerful here. Evil should never be presented as more powerful than good.
