Review 3: Shutter Island (Dennis Lehane)

This book is full of literary power. The introduction to the book is poetic prose - so beautiful it threatens to break your heart. After the intro, the prose and pace becomes a little too quick and speedy - not quite sloppy, but not as majestically constructed as the intro. Lehane could write a masterpiece from what I saw in the intro, but it seems he fell into the trap of writing quick reads (a la John Grisham). In fact, I felt like his pace and style was a knockoff of Grisham. Yet, it is comforting to know that someone in this age COULD write a masterpiece. Lehane could, even if he didn't. That's close enough to perfect for me.
